I studied Fine Art at Glasgow Art School in the 1990s. I continue to draw and paint. I work in inks, pastels and paint. Most recently I’ve been using natural chalk paint. My work has become more and more simple with an emphasis on painting the aspects of life that bring me joy.
A recurring theme is bowls, as I find them infinitely rich in meaning. For me bowls symbolise the feminine principle, the womb. They are one of the earliest markers of human culture. They have an interior and an exterior which can be quite different, just like a person. Buddhists describe the nature of reality as being sunyata which can be translated as both emptiness and fullness. For me bowls can represent that ineffable sunyata quality.
I sell my paintings for between £250 - £850, I’m happy for people to pay by instalments. Please get in touch if there’s a particular kind of painting you’re looking for as not everything I make is on the website.
"Drink from the well of your self and begin again"
Charles Bukowski
And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.
“Late Fragment” by Raymond Carver
